We’re a busy bunch at Ye Old Sun Inn with our friendly home-away-from-home atmosphere attracting a good-natured crowd. Our aim is to make every visit memorable, whether we present you with the perfect pint, a truly unforgettable meal or just a fun time without a second thought for the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With that in mind, we organise and host all kinds of events, demonstrations, classes, workshops and festival throughout the year. JUNE EVENTS

What:  Our Monthly Quiz Night

Cost: £1 per person, teams up to 4 people including light supper or nibbles at the end

Details: Can you answer all the questions on Mastermind? Can you give the Chaser a run for his money…? 

-Well neither could we. A light hearted way to enjoy an evening in the pub with a glass of beer or wine in your hand whilst you try and get one over on the other team. Winning team get a gallon of beer (sorry but we can’t offer a gallon of wine). No need to book, just turn up on the night. A light supper/nibbles will be served at the end of the quiz. And the Quiz Master’s decision is final!!

What:  Father’s Day Lunch

Cost: £25 3 course lunch with tea or coffee and a special gift for a special dad. We will only be serving our Wood Fired Pizzas in the Garden Bar from 3-7.30pm, although we cannot take bookings for these.

Details: Todays the day that you can treat the ‘old man’ to a lunch fit for a King! We’ve made sure we’ve got the very best hand pulled ales to complement our fantastic Sunday lunch menu offered by the kitchen. I’m sure he always manages to avoid the washing up but we’ll cover that anyway. The finest beers Yorkshire can offer as well as the best roast Beef with all the trimmings. -Go on get a table booked and make his day.

What:  Ashley’s Chocolate Demonstration

Cost: £10 per person

Details: Following from the TV series ‘Extreme Chocolate Makers’ we’ve allowed Ashley out of the kitchen for one night only, so grab your chance to pick up a few tips from the master himself…. If you’re a keen cook, budding chef or think the kitchen is for just making a cuppa and somewhere to stand during a party, this event is definitely for you. Ashley will talk you through various aspects of cookery and produce a vast selection of dishes whilst you watch. Questions are encouraged (although he doesn’t like hecklers- it’s a chef thing!) and he’ll try his best to answer them as honestly as he can. You will even get chance to sample the chocolate as the night is going on, maybe even drink some as well….. And you will even get to choose some chocolate to take home with you too!

Details: Ashley – our very own Willy Wonka – will be throwing opening the doors to his kitchen and putting his team of crafty chefs (or should that be Oompa Loompas?) through their paces for a hands-on chocolate workshop.

This is a unique opportunity for dedicated chocoholics to get their hands dirty (in a completely delicious way) making a selection of goodies for their family and friends. Or just for themselves, if they’re feeling more Augustus Gloop than Charlie Bucket – so why not book your golden ticket now?

What:  Kelly’s Gin Introduction Night

Details: Kelly will be hosting an evening of Gin, yes Gin! This night will give you chance to pour, mix and sample well over 50 gins that we stock here at the bar. You can sample any, or all of the Gins (all included in the price) with all a vast selection of garnishes and tonics that we have on offer. The night will be very light hearted and will give you a great chance to pick which Gin you feel fits your tastes and the garnish to suit your personality!

What: Call my Bluff Wine Evening

Cost: £15 including supper

Details: So you think you know your wines? Do you know the difference from a chardonnay and a merlot? Can you tell a delicate little number when you taste it? If you answered ‘no’ to all the above then you’ll have a good chance of winning this wine quiz! Join our wine ‘experts’ as they try to pull you into their way of thinking with the description and variety of the wine your drinking, but who’s telling the truth? You decide….. As the previous wine evenings have gone it’s not always the wine buffs that come away with the fizzy stuff at the end for winning the competition! Let see what happens this time.

OCTOBER EVENTS

When: October 5^th & 6^th  

What:  Food and Drink Weekend

Cost: Free Event, some talks/demonstrations may require a small fee. 

Details: A weekend of food and drink highlighting the finest produce that we have on our door step. We have combined 2 of our best events into one fantastic weekend. Our ever popular ‘Beer Festival’ and the ‘Farmers Market’ sample a vast range of craft ales, ciders and even a lager or 2 in there. And browse some of the best local produce from our area. We will also be run our ‘Gin Bar’ with cocktail making classes too. 

The event will showcase some new talent with our planned entertainment with things to keep the kids entertained too. 

A full line up of the event will be posted as we get confirmation nearer the time. A great event…and for free too!

What: Meet the Brewer Beer & Dinner Evening

Cost: £40 per person

Details: One of our more popular evenings, not really sure why? Is it the chance to sample a whole host of beers alongside some exquisite dishes from the kitchen? or is it the relaxed and interesting stories from the brewers themselves. Well whatever you think it will be a great night out with plenty of laughs along the way and you might even find you will learn something new about the art of beer making. Don’t come along and expect a boring night of flipcharts and diagrams on mash tuns and the like, but a chance to have a good laugh, great food and taste some fantastic Yorkshire ale!

What:  Ashley’s Fishy Workshop of Fish & Shellfish

Cost: £95 including 2 course lunch with wine. Additional Guests for lunch £20

Details: Push the swing door open to the Sun’s very own kitchen and join Ashley and his team for this morning of preparation of all things ‘fishy’. The morning will begin in a very civilised manner with coffee and Danish whilst you chat about the tasks ahead. Gutting, Scaling, filleting, portioning and preparing are on your job list for the day as you find your way around these sometimes slippery little beauties. All your hard work will be packaged ready for you to take them home with all the cooking instructions to impress that special person in your life or just to have for tea! The class is finished with lunch and a glass of the strong stuff if you feel you’ve deserved it!         This class is very much a preparation workshop where you can enjoy the dishes at home at a later date.

Details: There’s a tasty treat for all the family when we’ll be hosting one of our longest-running and most popular events of the year – the Gingerbread Workshop. 

Everyone is welcome to join us for a spot of house-building from 5.30pm – book your place at the making-and-doing table well in advance though as seats are snapped up early. And is it any wonder; after all, where else can you bag yourself a tasty house for as little as £15?

Please Note: Space is limited at this event, each house will be allocated 2 seats These seats are for the chid/ren and parents/guardian. Space may be restricted for any other guests that may wish to come along with each child.

What: Festive celebrations and opening times

Details: We like a traditional Christmas at Ye Old Sun Inn with lots of time with the family. If you’d like to join us on the main holidays (or holly days, as we like to call them), we’re serving our special Christmas Day menu and opening the bar from noon until 3pm on the big day itself (booking essential), and will be open for food and drink from noon to 3pm on New Year’s Eve (again, it’s best to book). We’ll also be open on New Year’s Day from 12.30-3.30pm offering our ‘chill out, anything goes menu’  as well as our daily menu for a particularly relaxed, recuperative service (although not so relaxed that you don’t need to book).

As a special festive treat, we’re giving ourselves the day off on Boxing Day, when we’ll be closed all day to play with our new toys (fingers crossed for a train set and some Star Wars Lego this year). -We will also be closed on New Year Eve Night, (open as normal lunchtime until 3pm).

New Years Day we will be open from 12.30-4pm then closed for our annual break until January 15^th.
